Welcome to the electronic edition of Inside Info. The e-newslettter that gives you "All the news thats Spitz to print." In this edition we cover the ACT 6.03 upgrade and the upcoming ACT! for the Palm OS. Both products show that ACT! is very alive and kicking. Just to give you some background on the corporate ownership tale of ACT; Symantec sold the ACT! product line in December 1999 to Interact Commerce Corp. (makers of SalesLogix), Interact Commerce was purchased by the Sage Group in May 2001, a large UK based software company that owns Peachtree, MAS90 and BusinessWorks. In 2002, Sage changed the name of their of their US operations to Best Software. All of the related Contact management/sales automation products which include ACT! are now part of Best Software/CRM division. So just keep calling it ACT!. The name survives even if the ownership changes. Thats brand strength!.

 

While many of you have heard ACT! 6.0 has been released, there have been a few issues with email. ACT! 6.01 came out a few months ago, but there are still a few kinks to be worked out. The 6.03 release promises to fix these. All of the issues are in databases that have more than one user at a time, so single users are OK with 6.01.
There's plenty thats new in ACT! 6. (See the side bar) But one of the most important things is that they've required it for ACT! for the Palm OS. So if you like what you see about ACT! for the Palm, then get ready for ACT! 6

Exciting News for Palm Users!

ACT! for the Palm OS or AFP is brand new application that replaces the ancient Palm Address Book and calendar and syncs significantly better with your ACT! desktop. For those of you who have used the current ACT! Link with your Palm, you may have noticed the following limitations.

  • Only 17 fields can be synched
  • Only 4 user fields show up on your Palm
  • When entering calendar events on your Palm, they aren't linked to any contact just yours. As Ben Blumberg of SalesWorks will tell you this a major pain.
  • Any calendar activity shows up in your My Record
